Hamas Fatah – Partners in Terror

Hamas and Fatah would have you think that now that they have had their kumbaya moment that are ready to move forward in peace.  Yesterday, they signed the deal formalizing the reconciliation in advance of demanding recognition of a Palestinian state at the United Nations.  That accord calls, in part, for “the continuation of the implementation of the provisions of the Palestinian National Accord.” OK, that’s good — until, of course, you actually look at this Accord which one of my favorite bloggers, Challah Hu Akbar, has already done.  In this well thought out piece, he highlights the parts of the Accord that call for Armed resistance against “the occupiers.” Not once do they acknowledge the State of Israel, or her right to exist.

Also keep in mind that within hours of an almost unprecedented late night national address by our President who said of the killing of binLaden “his demise should be welcomed by all who believe in peace and human dignity.” both organizations Hamas and Fatah condemned the the US action.  Let me repeat that they CONDEMNED the action by the US Navy Seals that eliminated from the planet the mass murderer of thousands including Muslims.   In fact, Hamas referred to binLaden as a Holy Warrior. Not surprising of course, given Hamas’ history of sending missiles and suicide bombers into civilian areas of Israel.

And then Mahmoud Abbas just this morning says this is really about “settlements” and says that Benjamin Netanyahu must choose “settlements or peace.” Really? From a man who has joined forces with an organization that is branded as a terrorist organization by the EU and the United States? He’s worried about housing?

Finally, the naive but probably well-intentioned  Jimmy Carter writes in today’s Washington Post Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal “told him” that Hamas would accept a two-state agreement provided it was approved in a Palestinian referendum. What kind of leadership is that?  And as a final remind about whom we are dealing withHamas leader said today, that “Palestinians will not recognize the rule of Poles and Ethiopians.”   Keeping it classy.
